Career Support as a Student or a Graduate

Take advantage of career, portfolio, and resume support and career resources. Global access to candidates and career opportunities from our domestic and international sites can aid in securing employment as a designer or other profession that is both exciting and rewarding even after you graduate from the school.

The Career Services Department, a division of the Center for Professional Development, is committed to finding exciting career opportunities for graduates, and to providing the employers with whom we work the best possible candidates so Harrington graduates can put their new skills training in interior design, digital photography and communication design to work in a rewarding career they love. Here’s some of the ways we can help you get there:

Undergraduate Services - Student Employment Coordinator (SEC)

  • Publish weekly HotJobs list of non-design work opportunities.
  • Wednesday noon workshops - “Résumés.”
  • One-on-one consultation for beginners.
  • Follow-up throughout your job search.

How can I meet with the Career Service Department?
If you’re an incoming student, first ask your Admissions Representative to refer you to your Tuition Planner. If you’re a current student, come to Career Services, Room 411 to schedule an appointment or call Camille at 312.697.8035. After your Tuition Planner begins the process, she’ll refer you to Career Services.

I don’t live in the Chicago area. How can I find out about jobs there?
Career Services continually reviews sources and calls employers to locate jobs. You will find many opportunities in online classified ads from Chicago-area papers, for example: www.chicagotribune.com, www.suntimes.com and www.chicagoreader.com.

What are HotJobs?
They’re non-design jobs that Career Services has identified to help you meet your financial responsibilities. The HotJobs list is available from anyone in the Career Services Department, Room 411, and on the HotJobs boards on the 3rd & 4th floors.

What kinds of jobs are available?
Job listings include office/clerical, retail, customer service, restaurant and stocker/package handler.

Do I need a résumé to apply?
In most cases, yes. But not all the time. It’s a good idea to have one ready.

Can Career Services help with my résumé?
Yes! To sign up for workshops on Wednesday at noon, e-mail Mary Kramer at mkramer@harringtoncollege.com

If I really want a job in design or photography will Career Services help?
Of course! Everyone in Career Services will help if you have the required skills, a résumé, references and samples of your work.

To check out Career Services and what they can do for you, stop by Room 411.

Sketch of living room interior
The process of Interior Design employs creativity and graphic communication skills. Harrington College of Design's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design Program is designed to develop these skills through problem-solving in two-dimensional and three-dimensional media. The student is challenged to develop critical thinking, conceptualization, and spatial visualization abilities. These skills can form the foundation for both hands-on and digital design and communication tools, which are integrated with an understanding of the interior environment in the design studio.......................................
